The Lost Beautifulness

  1. Your writing is interesting to me because it shows different characteristics of modernism than mine does. The comparison of high society to low society is not shown in my story at all. Everyone was treated as equals which is very unlike the people in your story.

  2. I think that it is interesting to see the differences in modernism characteristics. A lot of the poems seem to be about love between two people, but in this case, the author chose to make the connection between social classes. My poem focused on the love of two people during wartime, so seeing a different view of modernism helps understand the time period a little bit better.

  3. What stood out most to me was you had a really good variety of Modernism characteristic, a lot which were similar to mine, so we share common ground there. However, our stories differentiated in that yours had a significant story-line and really looked at society, while mine had no apparent connection.

  4. Mine is similar to yours because mine was about a landlord treating someone unfairly. In my case, it was because of the person's race. My poem, however, does not have the contrasting point of having a someone who is of the higher class treating someone of the lower class just as fairly.

  5. I like how you brought up the difference in social classes as a characteristic of Modernism.

  6. My story is similar to your's on the fact that it shows the flaws with the tenant farming system, a different form of oppression but still the same principle; yet our stories differ on the point that my story failed to include the rejection of high and low culture. I like how you successfully contrasted the similar yet seemingly contradicting characteristics of showing a broken social system and the ignoring of the traditional differences in high and low culture.

  7. Our works of literature are very different in format; mine is a poem and yours is a short story. Despite that, there is one major similarity between our literary works. Both of them are about discrimination and inequality among people. That is a big topic, and both of the writings go about presenting them in two very different ways, yet none the less they are very similar. Another difference is that my poem is about African Americans and the inequality that they face, whereas your story was about inequality between social classes, or groups of people.
